The Journey Church: Free Love Series
The idea behind the Free Love series was to love like Jesus loved. With a somewhat retro title, I wanted to come up with a design that felt appropriately old, but not stereotypical. Rather than go with the ubiquitous “flowers and peace signs” look of that era, I chose to focus on a less common, but still recognizable style: letterpress.
While I didn’t actually give it the textured look that makes that style so beautiful, I used the notion of letterpress design as a launching point. I chose slab serfs as a complement to the thick, simplified illustrations, and a heavy sans-serif to complement the slabs.
